Food Addiction

If you are food obsessed or have a compulsive relationship with food, then you may be suffering from food addiction. The following signs are strong indicators of food addiction:

  • Binge eating, or uncontrollable eating even when not physically hungry
  • Eating faster than normal
  • Eating alone due to shame and embarrassment
  • Feelings of guilt due to overeating
  • Preoccupation with body weight
  • Depression or mood swings
  • Awareness that your eating patterns are not normal
  • Weight gain
  • History of weight fluctuations
  • Withdrawal from activities because of embarrassment about weight
  • History of many different unsuccessful diets
  • Eating little in public, but maintaining a high body weight
  • Low self esteem and feeling the need to eat larger and larger volumes of food

Food addiction is isolating, depressing and can lead to serious health issues. However, it can be overcome, or at least better managed.
