If you are suffering from abdominal pain, bloating or even a change in bowel habits, you may have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). People with IBS can also experience fatigue, body pain, headaches and backaches. The cause of IBS is unknown, however it can be managed and its symptoms can often be significantly reduced. Studies have shown that a group of sugars known as FODMAPS often cause the symptoms of IBS. FODMAP is an acronym referring to: Fermentable, Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols. The sugars in certain fruits, dairy, artificial sweeteners and even some vegetables are all examples of FODMAPs. There can also be other dietary and non-dietary triggers for the symptoms of IBS. For sufferers of IBS, a change in your diet may have a real impact in improving your IBS.

“After nearly a decade of athletic performance and fuelling myself with just about every simple energy source, stepping away from the 2000 Olympic Games and into a corporate life really made me think about what I eat and how I feel to drive performance. My new circumstances involve longer hours, less sleep and a less disciplined diet, together with coffee and alcohol. There’s a good chance I’ve lived with the symptoms of IBS for a long time. I owe a lot to Naras who was able to re-set my stomach and get my gut under control”

“In 2007, I suffered 2 episodes of food poisoning and was placed on antibiotics for over 12 months. This treatment destroyed my stomach and I existed on a very restrictive diet for several years. I tried everything from allergy elimination to naturopathy to sort out my irritable bowel symptoms but nothing seemed to work. I was then recommended to ‘The Body Doctor’, where Naras helped me to re-build my diet. I have gone from 4 basic foods to over 20 and I feel that I now have so much variety in my food choices. This has been such a relief for someone who is sensitive to pretty much everything! Thanks Naras”
