LA – Elite Runner, March 2012
“After many years of training hard and making some small moments of improvement in my marathon running it was suggested I see a dietician to see if any changes to my diet and fuel intake during my races could improve my times. Dr Lapsys was incredibly thorough in his analysis of all my current patterns of eating during training periods: pre race, during the race, and even post race. The changes I made with Dr Lapsys’s suggestions had an incredible impact on my performance. I realised I was not fuelling my body correctly during my long runs and during the race. Once I made these changes I took 15 minutes off my marathon time and just recently ran my fastest 10k race ever at the age of 44! I really can’t thank Dr Lapsys enough and still remember all his words as I’m racing.”
DL – Sydney Marathon, September 2011
“From the bottom of my ticker I want to thank you for all your help in preparing for my first marathon. Thanks to you, it was one of the best days of my life! Without a word of a lie, I feel like I was the most prepared person on the course. Not only did you counsel me on my training and race day nutrition (which went off without a hitch) but you provided wise counsel on everything from managing the soaring temps, what to wear, how much to carbo load etc etc. Clearly your experience working with elite athletes has turned you into a veritable wealth of knowledge – all of which I sucked up and used to help me execute the exact race that I was hoping for. Despite being but a novice!
My greatest fear was hitting the wall, which did not happen. I think I came close – but heeded your wise words “if you’re about to hit the wall, you will slow down rapidly and might get a bit emotional” – when both of those things happened at 35km, I wolfed down a gel and was okay to finish off the marathon full of beans, if not in a great deal of agony! (to be expected from any good marathoner!) By 36km, I would say 90% of the people around me were walking. But not me – I was powering on, doing the marathon shuffle all the way home…
The temperatures reached 32 degrees but I was prepared for that too – I followed every inch of your advice to a tee. Meanwhile those around me were dropping like flies.
Every morsel of advice you gave me came into use on the day and there was nothing that fazed me. I could not be more grateful for you “holding my hand” for the past few months and right into my race. I appreciate you making time for my race week emergency phone consultations to calm my hysteria. In many ways, you were more than my dietician – you were more my coach! And thanks to your help, my first marathon was the best experience of my life to date. I loved every second of it – even the extremely demanding final 8km.”
MH – Sydney Half Marathon, September 2011
“Thanks for all your sound advice, Naras. Came storming home in 2hrs 2mins. I was trying for under 2hrs but gave it my best and had no more to give. I’m sore but elated!”
MM – September 2011
“When I came to The Body Doctor 5 months ago, I had just started road riding and was trying to train hard. I couldn’t sustain a high level of effort and was always tired, nearly falling asleep in the afternoons. I also was unable to backup the next day and do any type of effort, let alone a quality effort. While I thought I had a healthy diet and was eating the right foods, it just wasn’t working for me. Consulting with The Body Doctor, the most qualified sports nutritionist Sydney can offer, I realised that I was ignorant in the correct ways to fuel myself in order to achieve my training and race goals. I have since become educated in understanding the composition, use and the right foods to eat. I have been enlightened on how important it is to choose the right foods in the correct quantities at the right times. By changing my diet, I feel a lot more powerful, partly because I have put on 3kg of muscle. I often train in the mornings and race in the afternoons and have no problems about recovering and backing up to ride day after day. I now train and race at a higher level and I believe that I can continue this progress onto even bigger and better things.”

“Having spent the majority of my life overweight with a great deal of inherited bad eating traits, Naras offered professional and realistic dietary advice that was easy to implement. When we first met, I weighed 116 kilos. 12 months later I weigh 98 kilos. Thanks to Naras and some brilliant eating plans and fuelling strategies I have successfully completed the City to Surf, Sydney Half Marathon and now we’re working towards my first triathlon. I’ve never felt better and now looking forward to a more active and energised life… along with a new wardrobe!!”
